Lessons learned from the death of loved ones.

Published by David Paletta

I just finished reading When Breath Becomes Air, a beautifully written book by a doctor struggling with cancer.  The book touched my Heart and reminded me of some powerful lessons I learned from the death of two very dear friends.

1.  Dying is an equal opportunity experience.  It does not discriminate between rich and poor, man or woman, black or white, Democrat or Republican.

2.  Be humble.  There are times each of us needs a helping hand.

3.  Be prepared.  There are times when life is a nightmare.

4.  Figure out everything you want to do in life and go for it sooner rather than later.  There will be a day for each of us when our time is up.

5.  The greatest act of love one human being can give to another is to help them as they are dying.

6.  Sometimes bad things happen.  And then more bad things happen.

7.  Always say good-bye to a loved one with a smile.  It may be the last time you see them alive.

8.  We are all in this boat together, and we need each other.

9.  To care for the dying is sacred, holy work.

10.  When my Journey comes to an end, it will not matter how much wealth I have acquired.  Instead, what will be most important is the number of souls I have touched with kindness and compassion.
